Jared and I celebrated our four year anniversary a couple weeks ago. I surprised him with tickets to a Tigers/Indians baseball game in Cleveland, and then a day at Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio the next day.
We were pretty close to the field, it was awesome.
Jared was a little nervous going to Cleveland and wearing Tiger's apparel, but there were actually a lot more Detroit fans there than we thought, so we were safe.
We stayed in a Cedar point hotel so we got discount tickets and were able to get in an hour early before the park opened to the public. It was really nice getting early into the park, there was hardly anyone there yet except for other people staying in the Cedar Point hotels.
We were able to ride the most popular rides without hardly any wait. This was one of our favorites, Millennium Force. It's in the top 10 of fastest and tallest roller coasters in the world.
This was another fun one, the Maverick. I love this picture with my hair flying straight back, we got it in a magnet form to put on our fridge.
We also rode another roller coaster that is in the world's top 10 fastest and tallest, I think the 2nd fastest (120 mph) and and 3rd tallest (420 feet) roller coaster in the world right now, it was called Top Thrill Dragster. It was pretty dang scary, but we both loved it and rode it a couple of times.
We also went to the water park for a few hours. It was so much fun feeling like a kid again. I think we've both been so busy that we've forgotten what it was like to relax and have a good time. I think this was our best anniversary so far if I do say so myself. :)
Last week we also bought a little pop-up trailer. We got it on Craig's list for really cheap, but it wasn't in the best shape. Jared spent hours and hours cleaning it out and fixing up nice. So last week we drove up north and stayed at a campground near Mackinaw City. This was actually the first time we'd been up north in Michigan, it was beautiful. Our campground was right next to the coast line, with a view of Mackinac bridge.
Here is our cute little trailer.
We drove over the Mackinac Bridge to the UP (upper peninsula) to see what all the fuss was about.
We stopped at a little place in the first town called Castle Rock (in St. Ignace). You could pay $1 to climb the 300 or so steps to the top of the rock. This is the view from the top.
You can see our shadows waving in the trees if you look close enough. (Right below the lightest tree in the middle of the picture.
Paul Bunion and his ox. Jared thought it was lame and told me not to take a picture but I couldn't resist. I thought it was funny.
We then took a ferry over to the famous Mackinac Island. This is a view of the bridge from the boat.
This was a cute little lighthouse on the way to the island.
We tried samples of delicious homemade fudge, walked around cute little shops, and visited Fort Mackinac. Here are a few pics of the view from the fort.
At the fort they did little reenactments of soldiers from the 1800's. We watched them shoot off the old guns and an old cannon. It was pretty sweet.
The sun was setting on our way back over the bridge. It's too bad our camera couldn't capture the real beauty of it.
The next morning we made breakfast sandwiches on our little stove in the trailer. It was awesome.
Michigan truly is a beautiful place, a different kind of beauty than Utah beauty, but still beautiful all the same. We really enjoyed our little trip up north and will definitely do it again.
